Yet another benign pop-culture related weekend entry.

Hype is most certainly not overrated...or...That's right. The Mummy Returns made $68 million in two days suckers

Spider Man predictably smashed the opening weekend box office records. I say predictably because now that 3 or 4 corporations own every form of media outlet, and tie-in's/cross-promotion are so sadly effective with today's consumer these opening weekend records are almost inevitable given enough sound and fury. Check out this list of All Time Box Office Opening Weekend Records. That's probably all you need to know about that. Spider Man may well be a decent movie but I don't want to see a History channel special on the origins of arachnid/human cross-mutation mythologies or any other such nonsense.
